Are you familiar with Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) Ku-ring-gai & Hornsby? You may have seen our volunteers with a crime prevention stall at community events. We are the ones handing out goodie bags with Neighbourhood Watch freebies, as well as pertinent information for residents. The success of NHW depends on volunteers.
Neighbourhood Watch Ku-ring-gai Hornsby has volunteers working together as a team and identifying the most effective methods of making our neighbourhoods and our internet usage safer for all. These include the six principles we see as driving our strategy. Please look at these on our HOW WE HELP page.
Neighbourhood Watch Ku-ring-gai & Hornsby is a group of like-minded resident volunteers, wishing to help the community stay safe and secure. Please consider volunteering with us – reach out via our CONTACT page.
Volunteers assisting NHW Ku-ring-gai & Hornsby meet informally at quarterly meetings, held in the meeting room at PCYC, 1 Park Lane, Waitara. (Thanks PCYC!)
Why help? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Volunteering is a great way to contribute to the community, via education, events, or behind the scenes. It helps residents, but it can also help you! Volunteering is known to boost self confidence, self worth, meaning and recognition – even reduce stress! We can offer you new skills, friendships and a way to give something back to your local neighbourhood.
Neighbourhood Watch Ku-ring-gai & Hornsby is happy to write a testimonial for any volunteer who has given us their time and expertise, eg translating a document, or assisting with update of our website.
Maybe you are newly retired, ready to move to the next chapter in your life?
Neighbourhood Watch is a great organisation to offer your time – everyone deserves to feel safe and secure in their home. These days life includes bringing the internet into your home, and with it, all the new crimes that have evolved since you were born! Help educate those residents unfamiliar with technology, to help stop them becoming victims of scams or identity theft, whilst learning more yourself. We can match your skills to our needs and vice versa. Let’s do it.
How can you help?
Our volunteers have many roles:
- Stalls – Looking after a crime prevention stall at a community event and connecting with residents
- Kids – Assisting with kids’ activities at community events, such as police dress-ups, or crafts (giving us time to chat with the parents about their particular concerns).
- Mailchimp – Creation of the weekly eNewsletter giving an update on crime in the area
- WordPress – Website maintenance
- Facebook – Admin of various NHW Facebook pages and groups
- KerbWatch – Flyer delivery and management of kits for our latest project, which aids residents to DIY their house number onto the kerb. Or assist those who can’t do their own.
- Resources – organisation and management of resources that residents can borrow or obtain.
- Documents – Research & creation of new documents, such as Frequently Asked Questions, Our 20 Favourite Crime Prevention Tips series, etc
- Presentations – Speaking about NHW and the many ways in which we can help the community, to community groups, such as PROBUS, retirement villages etc.
- ‘Cocooning’ – Assisting with letterbox drops to warn residents adjacent to a recent crime incident.
- Email – Monitoring our NHW email and responding to the many queries and requests.
Does anything catch your eye? Or maybe you can bring a particular skill to NHW that we don’t yet know that we need?! Fancy a chat to find out more? Please start a conversation with one of our friendly volunteers via our CONTACT page.
